Tyga Says The Kardashian Family Made Him Rethink His Music
It seems like Tyga was just trying to change with the times.Much was made about the rapper’s very public split from Kylie Jenner and, by association, the Kardashian family brand as a whole. While some would miss that kind of hefty ongoing publicity, there’s an inkling now of how that uncoupling made Tyga rethink his musical approach and some might say even strengthen it.
Speaking with XXL, Tyga said that the adjustments in his sound that can be heard on his new release, BitchI’mTheShit 2, was due to him being away from that kind of intense spotlight. “Being around that family really I wouldn’t say helped my brand, you know what I’m saying—business-wise or nothing like that,” he admitted. “But I think it definitely put me in the light of more women, being seen that their fan base is more female-driven […] it kinda like made me reevaluate my music and kinda like how I move and carry myself I think because I know more women are watching what I’m doing.”
While he’s still making music that appeals to his male fans, most notably his recent Kanye West collab “Feel Me,” he’s also conscious of switching it up for the other side of the gender coin. “Making more female-driven music, tapping into that emotion and kinda like speaking from a male’s perspective on a lot of the situations that men go through with women and just that point of view of someone in my position, you know,” he explained.
