In breaking news, following the siege on the premises of the Islamic movement in Zaria yesterday in a confrontation that led to as many as 20 members of the movement dead, the Nigerian government has arrested the group leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and other top leaders.
While the Nigerian army claimed in their Press release that the action was caused because members of the movement attempted to kill the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Buratai who was in Zaria, the group in its last Press release denied this and published several pictures of the army siege on its Husainiyah Baqiyyatullah office.
The group asked why if not a premeditated attack, the army brought cameramen to record the entire process
Group top leaders including Muhammadu Turi, and Mustapha Saidu were killed in the confrontation in Kaduna.
The group website has also been since taken down in a comprehensive action suspected to be by the Nigerian government.
The Governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai is yet to comment on the matter in his state.
The Islamic movement has over a million members, mostly located in Kaduna. The movement is largely peaceful but has been criticized for blocking and slowing traffic during its millions men spiritual processions.
