Tru Life might be a little known member of the Freebandz movement, but that doesn’t preclude him from leading the lifestyle it entails. Unfortunately that doesn’t begin to describe the rocky road that’s been Tru Life’s career to date. The New York-born rapper may be best known for a beef with Mobb Deep that quickly turned violent, beginning as a squabble over publishing rights to a song on the Any Given Sunday soundtrack several decades ago.
After twenty years of hard-wired paranoia, the feud was put to rest shortly before Prodigy’s death. Shortly thereafter, Tru Life signed with Future and his imprint to little fanfare, Tru Life choosing instead to celebrate the triumph with his day-one followers, his second phase beginning now at the ripe age of 42. “Baddie” looks to buck the trend of rappers overstaying their welcome. Be honest, if I hadn’t brought you up to speed, would you have known any different?
